Mercedes-Benz Dominates World Car of the Year Awards

Demonstrating its superiority in the modern automotive market, Mercedes-Benz dominated the World Car of the Year Awards during the recent New York International Auto Show. The convincing line of victories has followed consumer trends as they have also favored the brand, fueling amazing recent growth.

The long-running C-Class picked up top honors as the overall World Car of the Year, beating out 24 other models during the arduous process of elimination. The newly redesigned vehicle was up against the Ford Mustang and Volkswagen Passat in the final round, beating them out to take the top spot. Among the many changes made to the C-Class for 2015 is a longer and wider body, which translates into a more spacious and luxurious interior.

The car also boasts incredible road manners and occupant comfort, thanks to a revolutionary suspension design. Buyers can even opt for a self-leveling air suspension for even greater amounts of luxury, no matter what a road’s surface is like. For a vehicle to be eligible for the prestigious accolade, it must be available for purchase on at least two different continents, starting on January 1, 2014 and ending on May 31, 2015.

The legendary Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe, a model that’s been praised by many for its beauty, refinement and invigorating performance, was selected as the World Luxury Car of the Year. The award was only created last year, and the S-Class claimed it then as well. The accolade was put together as a way to highlight premium models with higher-tier pricing and limited production runs. Mercedes-Benz’s venerable coupe took a long hiatus, finally returning for the 2015 model year. It oozes advanced technology throughout, with many features aimed at increasing the level of comfort and overall enjoyment of both the driver and passengers.
Thanks to these attributes, many in the automotive industry view the S-Class in any format as the undeniable luxury leader. The S-Class Coupe was able to beat out the Range Rover Autobiography Black LWB and BMW i8 in the final round of judging.

Already the Mercedes-AMG® GT is making huge waves in the industry as the new model offers striking good looks and a performance experience that is enough to leave anyone’s heart pounding. The judges were obviously impressed, because they named the model the World Performance Car of the Year. On top of its razor-sharp performance that can be dished out on any road or track, the GT also provides a world-class interior that’s packed with creature comforts such as well-padded seat bolsters. The other finalists for the award were the Jaguar F-Type R Coupe and BMW M3 Sedan/M4 Coupe.

All of the awards are decided upon by a jury panel that is made up of 75 prestigious automotive journalists from 22 different countries spread around the globe, making Mercedes-Benz’s victories that much more meaningful. The World Car Steering Committee carefully selected each juror by hand, taking into account his or her credibility, expertise, experience and overall influence in the car world. As a result, each member of the jury was already familiar with the different models in contention for the honors, making the selection process simpler. The exclusive nature of the juror positions also adds some weight to the honors, in other words making them mean much more than many other awards in the automotive industry.
As a brand, Mercedes-Benz pulled off an amazing feat. It had five different vehicles make it all the way into the final round of judging, something no other automaker accomplished for 2015. Such a performance is unmistakable evidence that the brand is enjoying incredible success as it delivers what customers really want.
